The Tribe.

We’ve envisioned The Last Tribe to be a spiritual refuge for those who are seeking to live out the Catholic faith in their marriage, whether you are a seasoned Catholic, new to the Church (welcome home!), beginning again as we did, or simply intrigued about the faith. Regardless of where you are in the journey, it’s challenging! Living faithfully brings the fulfillment our hearts yearn for, but it is a life in opposition to the world, so naturally it comes with its ups and downs! So we wanted to share with you the treasures and gifts we found in the Catholic faith that have nourished us and others on this journey. We pray that through The Tribe, these treasures and gifts may help to strengthen and fortify your journeys and your current and future marriages and families too!

The Why.

Substance abuse, traumas, pornography addiction, sexual assaults, depression, anxiety, deep loneliness, being suicidal, lack of self-worth, gender identity disorder - just a few of the experiences we each had prior to knowing each other. Though we were both raised Catholic, each of our life journeys slowly drew us away from the Church. Individually, we tried different ways to cope, heal, and break out of our cycles, but it wasn’t until the great 2020 COVID shut-down did we begin journeying back to God in more intentional ways. Now as a married couple (MIRACLE!), raising our first child (ANOTHER MIRACLE!), we continue our journey of unveiling the gifts God desires to give us through the Church. We now want more than ever to share the treasures we’ve found and continue to find for we feel they are the foundations of strong, resilient, long-lasting marriages and families.

Though the list can go on, some of the treasures we’ve discovered are:

The Nature Theme.

You’ll come to notice a reoccurring theme of nature for The Tribe. We did this intentionally, to reflect where our beginning again journeys began - out in nature. We both reconnected with God by spending more time in nature and continue to find it a special place to encounter God’s love. And fittingly so! Nature is the entry point for many to encounter God’s Divine Presence, followed by in the goodness and love of human beings, then the contemplation of Jesus Christ, and finally in the presence of Jesus Himself in prayer. (Christ versus Satan in our Daily Lives by Robert Spitzer, Pgs. 81-83)

Sandra is also a climate adaptation scientist and feels that it’s important for these upcoming generations of families and children to re-learn what it means to be good stewards of sister Earth. By reshaping our relationship with nature, taking notes from our indigenous brothers and sisters and traditional ways of living, we can raise families and wise children that will be able to thrive, even if times get tough (scarce resources, shortages, supply chain issues, etc.). Here is an article Sandra wrote that takes a dive into her career journey and how faith plays a roll as we adapt to the changes in our environment.
