Our Story

One Kenyan. One Mexican. One deep love for God!

It was only 8 months ago that Paul and Sandra were both interested in pursuing religious life. Paul was inquiring about seminary and becoming a priest. Sandra was researching what it meant to be and live and live of a consecrated woman (example here). Both were attending daily mass at the time and occasionally seeing each other at the 7am mass at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church – seeking meaning, purpose, a new beginning from their past lives.

Thanks to their parents, who raised each as Catholics, Sandra and Paul knew that God existed, that they are loved, not despite their flaws and scars, but loved FOR them. Both were on a path of deep healing and forging intentional spiritual lives when God finally brought them together.

They instantly recognized a deep love for each other, not ever experienced before. Sandra insisted it was a deep brother-sister relationship. Paul, well, he already knew what was really going on and prayed an intense St. Jude Novena (which required praying 6 times a day!) to bring them together, if it was God’s will. On the eve of day 9, Sandra was enlightened to what Paul and God already knew!

From that point forward (and to this day), they have witnessed each other become more fully alive, an ever increasing of joy, peace, strength, and love for God. Nothing about their relationship has been/is ‘normal’ (including their 10 year age difference!), but that’s been the whole point!

Sandra and Paul have recognized the divine gift they have in each other, even though their relationship transcends their own understanding a lot of the times, and have walked these several months not following what is ‘normal’, but what God lovingly instructs for His beloved children. It definitely has not been easy (and probably will continue to be so), but it is surely what has brought about new life, bursting with beauty and joy, finally giving each the meaning and purpose to their lives they each looked for, powered by eternal strength, joy, peace, hope, courage, and above all LOVE!

Wedding Highlights

Sister Isabelle will be singing!

If you do not know already, Sandra’s sister is a religious sister with the Franciscan TOR order. She will be flying in from her monastery (near Steubenville, Ohio) and sharing her classically trained opera-singing voice! What a blessing!

Newman 9am Choir Reunion

When Sandra first moved to Tucson, she was encouraged to sing at the University of Arizona’s Newman Center 9am choir. Lead by Teresa Banks, members of this choir family will be blessing the wedding ceremony with their joyful voices!

Many priests!

The shepherd’s love and care of parish priests have helped Sandra and Paul get to where they are today! To honor their sacrifices and commitment, they’ve invited several priests to bless their entrance into this sacramental union.

Registry

We have all we need!

The only thing missing at this point is a 2nd vehicle! Paul has long been the family driver and now needs to officially hand-off the family vehicle. As a mechanic, we figured a second-hand truck would be best for him to have. With the current work situations, both needing to go to two separate sides of town after mass in the morning, a second car is most definitely needed! Any help towards getting our truck of choice, a Toyota Tacoma, would be oh so greatly appreciated!
